Abstract: The photoacoustic technology has great advantage in fire detection.Design of photoacoustic cell is a key factor affecting the measurement results. This paper introduces application of nonresonant photoacoustic cell in fire detection. The environmental disturbance has less influence on the measurement results due to low modulation frequency.Small photoacoustic cells (approx.1 cm3) can reduce the dimension of the whole detection system.Changes in carbon monoxide concentration in a smolding cotton fire and flaming spirits fire are measured. The results indicate that nonresonant photoacoustic cell has a better performance in fire detection.
