Abstract: The nonlinearity behavior of the CMOS Gilbert mixer is investigated. The impact of MOSFET output impedance on distortion is studied in depth. The mixer nonlinear model and optimal drain-to-source voltage bias are presented in this paper. The rate of error between the analytical predictions and the Cadence SpectreRF circuit simulation results is less than 10%.
Key words: mixer, CMOS RF IC, linearity, MOSFET output impedance
