Abstract: Based on the theory of multi-body system, the mainshaft system of high-speed high-precision NC la the is investigated. It is treated as a coupled rigid-flexible multi-body system made of rigid and elastic bodies linked together in a specific manner.A dynamic model is established.Computation of vibration characteristics is carried out, and the computation results obtained using the multi-body system theory and the traditional lu mped mass method are compared. Results show that the developed mainshaft system of NC lathe is always within a stable and reliable operating area.Theoretical bases for application of the method to other multi-body systems are shown.
