Linearly Polarized Modes Amplifier Based on PbS doped Few-Mode Fiber

摘要: 本文采用改进的化学气相沉积(modified chemical vapor deposition,MCVD)法制备了一种新型少模光纤——硫化铅(PbS)掺杂少模光纤,研究了该光纤的荧光特性,并基于空间光调制器搭建了少模光纤放大系统,测量了光纤的模式增益特性。实验结果表明:在980 nm激光泵浦下,该光纤表现出超宽带近红外发光,光谱范围为1 050~1 650 nm;在1 540~1 560 nm波段范围内,实现了LP01和LP11模式放大,平均模式开关增益为4.5 dB,差模增益小于0.6 dB。该光纤为模分复用系统实现宽带模式放大提供了可行性。

Abstract: In this paper, a new type of few-mode fiber, lead sulfide (PbS) doped fewmode fiber is fabricated using modified chemical vapor deposition (MCVD) technique. The fluorescence characteristics of the fiber is characterized. A few-mode fiber amplification system based on the spatial light modulator is built, and the mode gain characteristics of the fiber are measured. The experimental results show that the fiber exhibits ultrawideband near-infrared luminescence when pumped by a 980 nm laser, and the spectral range is from 1 050 nm to 1 650 nm. The LP01 and LP11 mode amplifications are realized with the average modal on-off gain of 4.5 dB and the differential modal gain is less than 0.6 dB within the band from 1 540 to 1 560 nm. The optical fiber provides the feasibility to realize broadband mode amplification in the mode division multiplexing system.
