Abstract: In view of the limitation of the traditional thinking in modeling and simulation of the grinding processes, a new idea is put forward. It is the optimization of the topography in accordance with machining demands and grinding parameters and the optimization of grinding parameters in accordance with the topography and machining demands. In this way, not only the study of modeling and simulation can be realized but also the optimization of the processes can be carried out. Furthermore, a superabrasive slotted grinding wheel is designed as a practical application of the optimization model.

Key words: optimization, high efficiency grinding, grinding wheel topography
