Applications of Depth Distribution to the Study of Period Distribution in Error-correcting Codes

Abstract: In this paper, we find a relationship between the depth distribution and the period distribution in error-correcting codes. With the help of the depth distribution, we propose a new method for finding the period distribution of a linear code with a length to the power of 2. We can thus determine the period distribution of some classes of linear codes with a length to the power of 2, such as the extended Hamming code and the extended cyclic code.
