Abstract: Progressive meshes are used for LoD (Ievel of detail) modeling, progressive transmis-sion, etc. A new algorithm to create progressive meshes with multi-attributes is suggested in this paper. By extending the vertex vector from 3-dimension to n-dimension, the algorithm can create progressive meshes with additional attributes such as color, texture etc. The progressive mesh is represented by a simplified mesh and a splitting sequence. While creating the splitting sequence, the algorithm confines the simplified mesh vertices to the subset of the original mesh vertices, by means of which the information of splitting sequence is reduced and the algorithm efficiency im-proved. Several examples in the paper illustrate the effect of the algorithm.
